Legal Update - 1 July 2025
Part 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) (Amendment, Surrender and Compensation) (England and Wales) Order 2025 is in force from 1 July 2025. The Order establishes compensation and surrender schemes that will run between 1 July 2025 and 31 July 2025 in relation to ninja swords. The compensation and surrender schemes allow the items to be surrendered without repercussion and for those surrendering to receive payment.
From 1 August 2025 ‘ninja swords’ will be added to the list of offensive weapons contained in the Schedule to the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order 1988 meaning from that date, it is an offence to possess the items in private. It will also be an offence to manufacture and sell the items.
